Lady Cards win two Last week was another busy
week for the Lady Cardinals. The Lady Cards found themselves with two
wins and one loss and an incomplete game due to the weather. On
Monday, April 19, the Cardinals traveled to Tremont. The Lady Cardinals
were still on a high from the previous week with all their victories.
Kayla Yarbrough took the mound and Jasmine Houston was catcher. The
Lady Cards won 12-l. Everyone scored in the game. Yarbrough had eight
strikeouts. Tuesday, April 20, the Myrtle Hawks
came to Cardinal country. This was a division game. The Lady Cards were
ready to take on the Hawks and bring another win to their belts. The
Lady Hawks thought that this was going to be an easy win, but the Lady
Cards proved them wrong. Yarbrough took the mound with Houston
catching. Potts Camp won 14-4. Those scoring for the Lady Cards were
Houston (1), Yarbrough (3), Megan Watkins (l), Ashton Gandy (l), Macy
Watkins (3), Kaitlyn Skelton (3) and Shelby Davis (2). Yarbrough had
nine strikeouts. Thursday, the Lady Cards
traveled to West Union for a division game. This game was a must for
the Lady Cards to be in the playoffs. The Potts Camp girls were very
upbeat and very confident they could pull off a win. This was the most
exciting game the Lady Cardinals had played all year. Yarbrough took
the mound with Houston catching. Both teams found themselves with three
up, three down. This was the pattern for both teams until the bottom of
the seventh inning. West Union got a hit to left field and scored. The
game was over, with West Union winning 1-0. Yarbrough had 10 strikeouts
for the game. Coach Loden said the girls had
nothing to be ashamed of, that they played the best game he had seen
them play this year. He told the Lady Cards that he was very proud of
them. Friday night found the Lady Cards traveling
to Olive Branch. Potts Camp got its inning in and Olive Branch was up
to bat when the game was called because of bad weather. Afterwards the Lady Cards and parents treated the seniors, Ashton Gandy and Hannah Goolsby, to a night out. This ended the Lady Cards’ year with an 11-13 record.
