Fund-raiser May 8 for Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery By SUE WATSON Staff Writer An event that is very important to the perpetuity of the Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery is set for Saturday, May 8. The
gala is held every four years to renovate and maintain the gallery
built with funds left by the New York-trained artist for the
preservation of her life’s work. Clark, who spent the first 15 years of
her life in Holly Springs, then her last years, left a body of work
that includes about 1,200 paintings, according to Bea Green. Full Story
HIMS record new CD in Holly Springs The HIMS recently recorded their latest CD in Holly Springs, and it should be released by late May. Members

firefighters depend on their aldermen for their jobs, Johnson in this
case was dependent on the firefighters he has put his trust in for the

Byhalia police respond to 24 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 24 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 5; motor
vehicle accidents, 1; disturbances, 2; domestic calls, 1; escorts, 2;
animal-related calls, 1; assists, 1; medical assistance, 5; fires, 2;
harassment, 1; miscellaneous, 3. Byhalia police officers also made six arrests during the past week.

Collins Jr. and his father Elton Collins Sr. recently installed the
last two murals depicting historic people, places and scenes in Holly
Springs. The murals went up on the exterior west wall of the Holly
Springs Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau building at the corner
of North Market Street and East College Avenue. Some of the elements
include hummingbirds, an image of Sherwood Bonner and Cedarhurst,
Christ Episcopal Church, Van Dorn’s Raid, Sen. Hiram Revels, a field of
open cotton, the courthouse and square, the Mississippi Central
Railroad depot, and a Civil War scene. The other two murals are on the
exterior west wall of the Utley Building at South Memphis Street and
Van Dorn. The project was funded by a grant from the Mississippi
Department of Tourism under the initiative of Stephanie Movre,
executive director of the Holly Springs Tourism Bureau. |
