The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals finally had the chance to play at home last week. On Tuesday, March 30, the Lady Cardinals met the West Union Lady Eagles. It was Potts Camp’s first division game of the season. Lions pound Cougars By CLAUDE VINSON Chance Lykens took the mound for the H.W. Byers Lions in their contest on the diamond with the Blue Mountain Cougars on Tuesday of last week. Indians roll past Holly High Hawks By CLAUDE VINSON The Holly High Hawks, fielding their first baseball team in five years, hosted the Byhalia Indians April 1 for their home opener. Behind The Scoreboard Final Four Certain things disappeared from the NCAA basketball scene last week. Gone are the “Rock Chaw Jayhawks” and “Old Rocky Top” chants which resounded throughout the land. Gone also are three number one seeds from the NCAA tournament brackets in the men’s division. The Wildcats of Kentucky left in the East regional finals, the Kansas Jayhawks were done in the second round of the Mid West and Syracuse followed suit. Killer Kudzu slated May 15 The Killer Kudzu 5K winds through historic Holly Springs. This challenging course begins downtown and takes you past sweeping antebellum homes, towering native woods, graveyards dating back two centuries, and of course, kudzu. The 2010 Killer Kudzu 5K and one-mile race will be held Saturday, May 15, at 9 a.m. on the Holly Springs square. Visit www.americanpac.com or call American Pacific at 252-1862 for more information. MA boys take first The host Marshall Academy varsity boys claimed first place in an invitational track meet Wednesday, March 31. The Patriots totaled 87 points in the afternoon meet. Trailing were Tupelo Christian with 75 and North Delta with 69. MA’s only varsity girls competitor, Callie Clanton, placed first in both the long jump (13-9.5) and 100 meter hurdles (18.0). Cardinals down Myrtle By BARRY BURLESON The Potts Camp baseball team earned its biggest win of the season last week. The Cardinals beat Myrtle 7-3 on Tuesday, March 30, and improved to 2-1 in district play. Indians sweep Tunica Rosa Fort By BARRY BURLESON The Byhalia Indians won four of five games last week, improving to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in District 2-4A play. The Indians suffered their lone loss of the week on Monday – 10-2 to district opponent Lewisburg. |
