At
nearly 88 years of age and in good health, Madalynne Ash retired from
the chancery clerk’s office last week. She has put in 46 years with the
county, plus nine years with Fryling Electric before coming to the
courthouse. Madalynne began working with sheriff
J.M. “Flick” Ash as a dispatcher and sold car tags, back in the day
when the sheriff’s office and tag office were together in the
courthouse. After Flick Ash was elected chancery clerk, Madalynne moved
over with him to the clerk’s office, where she has spent her remaining
professional years working with chancery court. She has served three
chancery clerks - Flick Ash, Johnny Taylor Jr. and Chuck Thomas. Full Story
Gilligan enjoys volunteer work By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
first woman to scuba dive to the 1914 wreck of the Empress of Ireland
was a volunteer with Sacred Heart Southern Missions a few weeks ago. Veronica
“Ronni” Gilligan spent part of her three and a half week stay in
Mississippi in Holly Springs tutoring school children at Holy Family
School, traveling with a home health nurse and serving dinner to those
in need at the Garden Cafe at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Full Story
Airport receives $38,000 grant U.S. Senators
Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker recently reported that more than 30
Mississippi airport facilities will benefit from $8.6 million in
federal Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants awarded by the U.S.

trees just like kids do. He loves doing it so much he keeps climbing

Two die in crashes By BARRY BURLESON Editor Two people were killed in separate automobile accidents in Marshall County, according to coroner James Richard Anderson. DeAndre’ Johnson, 14, a student at Byhalia High School, died in a crash on Highway 78 Friday just before 1 p.m., he said. Full Story

Easter Bunny visits
The
Easter Bunny (Anthony Woods, Rust College) and Ken McMullen, director
of the Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department, get ready for the
city’s annual egg hunt, which was held last Saturday. Thanks to
Merchants and Farmers Bank and Jimmy Young for making two children
happy by donating $50 each for the surprise Easter egg. The Parks and
Recreation Department also thanks Wal-Mart, Piggly Wiggly and
Save-A-Lot for contributing candy for the eggs. |
