Cardinals down Myrtle
By BARRY BURLESON
The Potts Camp baseball team earned its biggest win of the season last week.
The Cardinals beat Myrtle 7-3 on Tuesday, March 30, and improved to 2-1 in district play.
“This was the best game our kids have played,” head coach Justin Weeden said. “Our defense played strong and we hit the ball when we had runners in the right place.”
Cody Watts was the winning pitcher. He threw a complete game with five strikeouts.
“Cody pitched a masterpiece of a game,” Coach Weeden said.
Watts also led the offense with two hits. Jesse Shaw had a big hit and picked up two runs-batted-in in the fourth inning.
“We had five straight hits in the fourth inning that led to us scoring five runs in the fourth,” Weeden said.
In the seventh, Sawyer Goode led off with a walk and Zack Mayer followed with a two-run homer.
The Cardinals were scheduled to continue district play on Tuesday of this week against West Union. They host H.W. Byers Friday at 5 p.m. and host Blue Mountain Saturday at 1 p.m. Next Tuesday, April 13, Potts Camp plays Ingomar at 5 p.m.
