Cards beat Lions
By BARRY BURLESON
The Potts Camp Cardinals opened district competition Tuesday of last week with an easy win over Marshall County rival H.W. Byers.
Seven of nine Potts Camp batters in the lineup had a hit in the 16-0 win.
Cody Watts earned the mound victory. He only pitched two innings and recorded five strikeouts.
Saturday it was a different story for the Cardinals as they dropped a district game, 13-1, at Ingomar.
The Falcons scored seven of their runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Potts Camp’s lone run came in the top of the third.
Ingomar added three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to end the game after five innings.
Austin Goode was the losing pitcher.
“Ingomar has a very good team this year,” said Justin Weeden, head coach at Potts Camp. “It was a tough loss for us, but it was a learning experience for us as well. We know what the measuring stick is now and what we’ve got to do to get there and be competitive”
The Cardinals (4-6 overall) visited Myrtle on Tuesday of this week. They will then go to West Union next Tuesday, April 6.
