Lady Cardinals begin season On Tuesday, March 2, the Potts Camp Lady Cardinal fast pitch softball team traveled to Olive Branch for the season opener. In spite of the bitter cold weather, both teams hit the field with excitement and anticipation. The game went five innings. This was a night the Lady Cardinals could not pull out a win. They fell 11-0 to Olive Branch. The pitcher for the Lady Cards was Kayla Yarbrough and the catcher was Jasmine Houston. The coaches for the Potts Camp Lady Cardinals are Michael Loden and assistant Danyel Turner. Coaches
Loden and Turner traveled with the Lady Cardinals to Tupelo for a
tournament Friday and Saturday. Friday night the Lady Cardinals’ first
game was with Eupora. The Lady Cardinals took to the field with
Yarbrough pitching, and Houston catching. The
Cardinals scored in the first and third innings. Eupora came back and
scored in the fourth and fifth innings. The final score was Eupora 5
and Potts Camp 2. Scoring for Potts Camp were Yarbrough and Megan Watkins. The
second game of the night was against Oxford High School. Potts Camp
took the field first. Both teams scored each inning. There was great
defense and offense on both teams. The final score was Oxford 4 and Potts Camp 3. Pitching for the Lady Cardinals was Yarbrough and catching was Houston. Those scoring for the Lady Cardinals were Houston, Yarbrough and Watkins. Saturday,
March 3, was a new game day for the Lady Cardinals. The first game of
the day was with the New Albany Bulldogs. This game was the best of the
weekend. The Lady Cardinals played five
innings. In the second inning Potts Camp was up one run. Neither team
scored again until the fourth inning. New Albany scored two runs in
this inning. Potts Camp girls were down by one. In the final inning the
Lady Cardinals did not let the Lady Bulldogs score. The
Lady Cardinals came up to bat for the last time, and scored two runs
giving the Lady Cards the 3-2 win. Those scoring for the Lady Cardinals
were Alaken McNeer, Hailey Davis and Yarbrough. The last game of the day was against Alcorn Central. Pitching for the Lady Cardinals was McNeer and catching was Watkins. The
Lady Cardinals held Alcorn Central until the fourth inning, when the
Lady Bears scored six runs for the victory. The final score was Alcorn
Central 7, and Potts Camp 3. Those scoring for Potts Camp were Watkins, Houston and Yarbrough, The Lady Cardinal played Booneville Tuesday of this week. They go to Tremont Friday at 5 p.m. and then host Strayhorn Saturday at 2 p.m.
