Streak ends for Lady Cards
By BARRY BURLESON
The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals’ unbeaten streak to start the season ended last week in the “Battle of the Best” at Pontotoc.
The Lady Cards, facing bigger schools, lost by three to the host school and by one to Senatobia. Their record went to 13-2.
“These games gave us some good competition with big division games coming up,” coach Tana Miller said. “We play in a very tough division, and games like these help us prepare for that.”
The Potts Camp girls committed 25 turnovers in a 60-57 loss to Pontotoc Monday, Dec. 28.
“The effort was there,” Miller said. “We just made some bad decisions.”
The Lady Cardinals trailed 15-10 after one quarter but rallied to lead 30-28 at the half. Class 4A Pontotoc outscored Class 1A Potts Camp 15-9 in the third quarter and held on down the stretch.
Kenyotta Jenkins had 17 points. Samantha Stinson added 10.
Ebony Brinker had a game-high 25 for Pontotoc, which improved to 11-2.
The Potts Camp girls rallied to tie the game versus Senatobia Tuesday, Dec. 29, with 18 seconds left but couldn’t pull out the victory. They fell 73-72 to the Class 3A Lady Warriors.
“We missed 13 free throws and lost by one,” Coach Miller said. “It was like we ran out of gas.
“We had a chance to score in the end to win it but couldn’t capitalize.
“Both days, we just did not get into a rhythm.”
Potts Camp trailed Senatobia 39-34 at the half.
Jenkins scored a game-high 27. Zana Davis and Stinson added 10 each.
Potts Camp hosted Falkner Monday of this week and Hickory Flat Tuesday. The Lady Cards go to H.W. Byers Friday and play New Albany Saturday.
Next Tuesday, Jan. 12, Potts Camp hosts Myrtle.
