Mantachie winner Thursday at 4 p.m. “Everybody is 0-0 now,” he said. “We’re very positive about our chances and opportunities.” The Lady Lions concluded the regular season Friday night with a 64-63 loss to Rosa Fort. Byers missed 13 free throws. Rosa Fort hit two with five seconds left for the win. Thompson’s squad trailed 46-38 after three periods. Leading
scorers for Byers were Symone Gorman with 16 and Kourtney Coleman with
13. Alexis Hardaway and Rachel Jones had nine each. The Byers girls enter the postseason at 26-3. “We’ve
got a lot of knowledge about what we’ve done right and what we’ve done
wrong,” Thompson said. “Now, we need to put together a formula and hope
it works well in the playoffs. “We have to dust ourselves off, put our ‘A’ game in our pocket and be ready to pull it out come Thursday.” The H.W. Byers boys suffered an 85-56 setback at the hands of Rosa Fort. They trailed 32-9 after one quarter. Fred Jones was the home team’s top point producer with 20. Jarvis Ware and Tedarian Bryson added 12 and 11, respectively. The
Lions’ record fell to 9-16 overall entering tournament play this week.
Seeded third, they played East Union Tuesday in the first round of the
Region 1-2A Tournament. The semi-finals start
Thursday at 4 p.m. Games start Friday at 4 p.m., too, with consolation
and championship matchups. The top four teams advance.
