Holly High selects new coach By BARRY BURLESON Editor  | | Marcus Autry |
Marcus Autry has been fortunate enough to be a part of tradition-rich football programs. Most
recently, he worked as assistant football coach, assistant athletic
director and head track coach at Olive Branch High School for four
years. Prior to that he was on the staffs at Louisville and
Philadelphia. “Those programs gave me my foundation to help me build a successful program of my own,” Autry said. He will get that opportunity at Holly Springs High School. He was recently named the new head coach of the Hawks. Full Story
Season resumes By BARRY BURLESON Editor High school basketball doesn’t rest much for the holidays. Several county squads have hit the road this week for post-Christmas tournaments. The
longest trip belonged to the H.W. Byers Lady Lions, who traveled to
Columbus, Ohio, to compete in one of the top five girls tournaments in
the country. The Class A Byers girls, two-time
defending state champions in 2A, faced Brookhaven (Ohio) Monday and
Kenton Ridge (Springfield, Ohio) Tuesday, both bigger schools. The Lady
Lions carried a 13-3 overall mark to Ohio. Full Story
National champ Lady Bearcats first inducted into Hall of Fame By IRVING R. SMITH Contributing Writer It’s
been over two decades since the Rust College women’s basketball team
defeated Elizabethtown College for the NCAA championship title in 1984. Yet
their legacy lived on Sunday, Nov. 15, at the 143rd Founder’s
Convocation, as the college also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the

Byhalia teams drop games in tourney By BARRY BURLESON Editor Byhalia teams traveled east on Highway 78 into some well-known basketball country last week. They competed in the Myrtle Tournament. The Indians dropped games to the host squad and talented Ingomar, while the Lady Indians also lost to the host Lady Hawks. Full Story

Saturday which had ripples not only in the SEC but throughout the
entire NCAA. One of the conference’s most recognizable coaches

MA jr. high squads break with 4-6, 15-0 records The Marshall Academy junior high Lady Patriots began the 2009-10 season with a lot of question marks. With
four freshmen moving up to high school this year and only two starters
returning from last year’s district runner-up team, the Lady Patriots
would need to replace their leading ball-handler and scorers. Full Story
Marshall soccer builds excitement Marshall Academy soccer teams had some fun on a cold Saturday, Dec. 12. The
boys squad scrimmaged the Lady Patriots, who were joined by a couple of
former players, coach Lance McGregor and some guys who helped him coach
this season. “In the first half I felt like the
guys did a lot better job on the offensive end and pushed the ball down
on several occasions and had some nice looks on goal but could never
connect,” McGregor said. Full Story
