Lawrence Edward Brown
Lawrence Edward Brown,
54, of Kansas City, Mo., died Dec. 17, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice. He
was born Sept. 29, 1955 in Holly Springs. Services
were held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 23 at Lawrence A. Jones Funeral Chapel in
Kansas City. Burial was in Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks.
Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He
leaves his wife, Nancy Ashford Brown; a son, Phillip Brown of
Lawrenceville, Ga.; five brothers, Bobby, Terry, Anthony Brown, all of
Memphis, Tenn., James and Wilbert Brown, both of Charleston, S.C.; and
two sisters, Delorise Brown of Cleveland, Ohio, Jeanette Thompson of
Jackson. He was preceded in death by a brother David Rankin. Lucille Carver Lucille Carver, 70, of Potts Camp, died Dec. 21, 2009 at a nursing home. She was the widow of James Robert Carver and a Baptist. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Waterford. She
leaves a son, James Carver Jr. of Water Valley; a daughter, Norma
Yeager of Potts Camp; four brothers, Glenn Dye of Batesville, Kenneth
Dye of Bruce, Jimmy Dye of Calhoun County, Will Dye of Water Valley;
four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Nonnie B. McKinney Fitts
Nonnie
B. McKinney Fitts, 60, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 19, 2009 at Alliance
HealthCare System. She was the widow of Jessie James Fitts and disabled. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 26 at Union Valley MB Church in Byhalia,
where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Van
Rayford officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements. She leaves six daughters,
Elizabeth Fitts, Brenda Fitts, Lovetta Fitts, Mary Wiseman, all of
Holly Springs, Diane Hibbler of Memphis, Tenn., Emma Street of Byhalia;
a son, Curtis Fitts of Holly Springs; two sisters, Emma McKinney,
Arlette McKinney, both of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Nathaniel McKinney
of Aurora, Ill.; 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by a daughter, Arlissa Fitts; siblings Erma Jean
McKinney, Russell McKinney, Joe McKinney, L.C. McKinney and William
McKinney. Pallbearers were Reggie Caldwell, Larry
Brown, Will Phillips, Eric Totten, Ron Wooten, Demarcus Newson, Rick
Rayford and Charles Glover. Honorary pallbearers were John Mays Jr.,
Curtis Fitts, Lee (Nate) McKinney, Steve McKinney, Bobby Street,

Jean Cox Martin, 65, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 26, 2009 at Alliance
HealthCare System. She was a church usher, elementary Sunday school
teacher and retired cashier and cook with Davis Grocery. Services
will be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 2 at Chulahoma MB Church in Holly
Springs, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Rev. Rondias Cox will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is
in charge of arrangements. She leaves her
husband, Henry Martin Jr.; two daughters, Chastia Donnell, Latriece
Martin, both of Holly Springs; four sons, Nathaniel Martin, Trent
Martin, and Calvin Andre Martin, all of Holly Springs, Allen Earl
Martin of Greenwood; a sister, Bertha Alexander of Holly Springs; five
brothers, Lawrence Edward Cox of Peoria, Ill., Robert Cox, Grayland
Cox, Lee-Vie Cox, all of Holly Springs, Wilkie Bernard Cox of
Petersburg, Va.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by siblings Ira Seal Cox, Kenneth Wayne Cox and David Earl Cox. T.C. Moore

Moore, 68, of Byhalia, died Dec. 19, 2009 at Darlington Hospice in
Tupelo. He was born Dec. 19, 1941 in Byhalia. He accepted Christ at an
early age and joined Mt. Pisgah CME Church. He was employed by
Coca-Cola Memphis for 23 years. Services were
held at 12 noon on Dec. 26 at Mt. Zion Taska MB Church in Byhalia,
where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pastor Keith
Pendilton officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. He leaves his wife, Mamie Moore;
three sons, Eddie Wynn of Memphis, Joe Moore of Lamar, Clay Moore of
Byhalia; a daughter, Carolyn Moore of Byhalia; four sisters, Wilma
Moody of Collierville, Tenn., Mae Ida Bonner, Kenya Wooten, both of
Memphis, Tenn., Ida Pearl Adams of Abbeville; four brothers, Donald
Moore of Waldorf, Md., Oneal Moore of Oxford, James Richmond, Joseph
Richmond, both of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and a great-grandson. Pallbearers
were George Davis Jr., Darren Hardaway, Corderious Horton, Jamar
Horton, Reginald Garrison Sr., Jackie Wilson Sr., Romarus Garrison, and
Mario Wynn. Shellie Ray Rose Shellie Ray Rose, 80, of The Colony, Tx., died Dec. 21, 2009 at his home. He was a church deacon and manager at Sunbeam. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 26 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. He
leaves his wife, Mary Rose; two daughters, Mary Whelan, Deborah
Buehlman; a brother, J.C. Rose; a sister, Pansy McDaniel; seven
grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, one
step great-grandchild and one step great-great-grandchild. Rex Ross

Ross, 73, of Byhalia, died Dec. 21, 2009 in Cordova, Tenn. He was the
widower of Martha Williams Ross, an Olive Branch Seventh Day Adventist,
a line mechanic, and a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. He
leaves two sons, James Ross of Birmingham, Ala., Daniel Ross of
Cordova, Tenn.; a daughter, Robyn O’Neal of Colorado Springs, Colo.;
two sisters, Pansey Chester of Kansas City, Kan., Maxine Mayer of
Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Billie M. Smith Billie M. Smith, 81, of Byhalia, died Dec. 21, 2009 at her home. She was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 26 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Memphis Memory Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Bro. Oscar
Geeslin officiated. She leaves her husband, James
B. Smith; four sons, Stephen M. Smith, Ernest P. Smith, Arnold Graber,
all of Byhalia, Kenneth T. Smith of St. Mary’s, Ga.; two daughters,
Tamara L. Smith, Kandace M. Pierson, both of Byhalia; a sister, Mae
Ryan of Lake Cormorant; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons James G. Smith, Philip C. Smith and Christopher M. Smith.
