Government
offices closing for holidays
Marshall
County offices, along with its municipalities (Potts Camp, Holly
Springs and Byhalia) announce holiday closings.
County
and city government offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Dec.
24-25, for Christmas holidays, and Thursday and Friday, Dec. 31,
2009-Jan. 1, 2010, for New Year’s holidays.
Newspaper
deadlines same for holidays
The
South Reporter’s deadlines during the holidays will remain the same.
Offices
in Holly Springs will close at noon this Thursday, Dec. 24, and reopen
after the Christmas holidays on Monday, Dec. 28, at 8 a.m.
The
newspaper offices will close at noon on Thursday, Dec. 31, and reopen
after the New Year’s holidays on Monday, Jan. 4, at 8 a.m.
Deadline
for classified advertising is Monday at 10 a.m. Deadline for all other
advertising, including legal notices, and news items is Monday at 5 p.m.
State troopers
in midst of holiday blitz
Troopers
with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol are
conducting a DUI blitz between December 16 through January 3, according
to Sgt. Leslie White with the office in Batesville.
“Extra
troopers will be working and watching for speeding, erratic driving,
careless driving, and they will be enforcing the move-over-law and the
seat belt law,” White said.
He
urges all motorists to observe the traffic laws and to not drink and
drive.
“For
those who choose to drink and drive, they will be locked up,” White
said. “This is all about public safety.”
Blood drive set
Jan. 6 at Marshall Academy
Marshall
Academy will be holding a blood drive on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
The
blood drive will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Mississippi Blood Services
will have a donor coach in the parking lot. All donors will receive a
2010 Road to Life T-shirt. The school is located at 100 Academy Drive,
Holly Springs.
“Blood
donors help many
Mississippians get back on ‘the road to life’ and we want to return the
favor by giving them the chance to get on the road in a brand new car,”
said Tony Bahou, manager of communications and public relations. “Blood
donors are the driving force behind Mississippi Blood Services. They
literally give of themselves to give the gift of life.”
