Indians selected all-district
By BARRY BURLESON
Three Byhalia Indians were named first team all-district and another second team.
Honored on the top list of All Region 2-4A players were senior linebacker Jeremy Sessom, senior defensive back Labradford Rayford and freshman kickoff and punt returner Andre Collins.
Selected to the second team was junior receiver Patrick Malone.
Several other Indians made the honorable mention list – offensive linemen Carderious Dean, Davion Johnson, Damien Rayford and Jamal Danley; linebackers Andre Johnson and Deandre Sanders; running backs Devonte Norman and Randy Holt; defensive end Brandon Bougard; and quarterback Kevin Fitzpatrick.
“I want to congratulate all of these guys,” coach Markeith Washington said. “They all worked extremely hard and deserved this recognition.”
He said the honorable mention list includes several freshmen and sophomores “who made an impact their first year.”
“This give us something to build on and we’re looking forward to the spring and our off-season camps,” Washington said.
The Indians will play in a spring jamboree at Lafayette.
“We hope to increase our depth and continue our rebuilding efforts,” he said. “We need everyone’s support in building this football program.”
Byhalia finished 5-6 this past season, its first of competing in Class 4A.
