Marshall County foes clash • Byers sweeps Byhalia By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor Last
Friday night, the Byhalia Lady Indians, under new head coach Markeith
Washington, hosted veteran coach Jason Thompson and his defending state
champions Lady Lions of H.W. Byers. Both teams
started off attacking the basket, both well aware of what the history
of this rivalry means and entails. Byhalia was getting good looks and
second opportunities, however the accuracy was not there. Both teams
were quick on offense, but Byers was doing a better job of claiming
offensive rebounds. This led to the Byers’ 13-6 lead at quarter’s end. Full Story
Potts Camp claims trophies By BARRY BURLESON Editor Potts Camp basketball teams left Walnut Saturday night carrying first-place trophies. Both the Cardinals and Lady Cardinals won championships in the Walnut Tournament. It
took a huge shot from JaVaughn Jones to claim the gold for the Potts
Camp boys. He hit a three with three seconds left to provide the 77-76

is in the 1A class and Holly High is a 3A school. The Lady Cougars have

Bull-riding event Sunday Northwest Community
College’s rodeo team will hold the Ranger Shootout Winter Series
Jackpot Bull Riding event Sunday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. It will be held at
the Northwest Multipurpose Arena located at the Northwest Farm on
Highway 4 West in Senatobia. The event fee is $40
and must be paid by 1:30 p.m. that day. The purpose of the event, which
is open to the public, is to raise money for the rodeo team. For more

Lions, Lady Lions beat Independence The H.W. Byers boys basketball team earned its first win of the young season Tuesday of last week at home. Coach Jason Thompson’s Lions, playing on the home court, knocked off Independence 56-48. Full Story

A Holly Springs High School graduate is entering his fifth year with the University of Southern Mississippi basketball program. Willie
Glover is in his first year as the video coordinator/camp director,
while also assisting with academics. From 2005-2009, he served as the
team manager. “Through dedication and a hard work
attitude, Willie Glover has worked his way up the Southern Miss
basketball ranks,” the profile states on the Southern Miss website. Glover is a 2009 graduate of USM with a degree in coaching and a 2004 honor graduate of Holly High. He is the oldest son of Willie Glover and Sandra Glover. |
