Hawks improve to 16-6

The Holly Springs High School Hawks knocked off a pair of district foes last week, while the Lady Hawks split versus the same schools.

Coach Naylond Hayes’ Hawks invaded Lewisburg Tuesday of last week and routed the home team 84-34.

Top seeds
• MA teams 10-0 in district

Marshall Academy teams have earned the top seeds in the district tournament which they will host February 5-7.

The Patriots and Lady Patriots each finished 10-0 in District 1-AA. The biggest of the wins last week came at Lee (Clarksdale) for the boys and at home versus Indianola for the girls.

Lady Lions’ win streak ends

Mississippi’s top-ranked team ventured across the state line to Tennessee Saturday and suffered its first loss of the season.

Coach Jason Thompson’s H.W. Byers Lady Lions (23-1) played in what he called a tough environment and fell 45-40 to Middleton.

Byers splits with Independence

H.W. Byers ran up an early lead after claiming the tipoff and head coach Jason Thompson began running in reserves almost immediately.

The Independence Lady Wildcats played the Lady Lions pretty close for the remainder of the opening period and evened the score at 13 apiece at quarter’s end.
