Thomas
Lester Barrett, 68, of
Clarksdale, died Jan. 23, 2009 at his home. He was disabled, a U.S. Air
Force veteran, a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church, an ordained
Baptist minister, a member of Lions Club of Holly Springs and a member
of American Legion.
Services
were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 28
at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Rev. Tim Beard
officiated. National Funeral Home in Clarksdale was in charge of
arrangements.
He
leaves his wife of 49 years, Wanda
Holloway Barrett; a daughter, Rebecca Jurado of Clarksdale; a son,
Thomas (Tommy) L. Barrett Jr. of Laws Hill; three sisters, Josephine
Rush of Clarksdale, Shirley Leist of Biloxi, Dorothy McGee of Mobile,
Ala.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Deale Binion Cochran
Deale
Binion (Bin) Cochran, 87, of
Marietta, Ga., died Jan. 10, 2009. He was born in Holly Springs,
graduated from Holly Springs High School and attended Marion Military
Institute, Marion, Ala. A 1942 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he
served on the USS Helena until she sank July 1943 in the Kula Gulf. He
then served on the USS Miami, the USS Oklahoma City, and as an
instructor at the Navy Sonar School, San Diego, Calif. He was recalled
to active duty 1951-1953 with the Office of Naval Intelligence,
Washington, D.C. He worked for Johns-Manville until 1967, then the
Georgia Power Company, retiring in 1985.
A
memorial service was held at 2 p.m.
on Jan. 15 at East Cobb Presbyterian Church, Marietta, Ga. Family and
friends gathered on Jan. 17 in the narthex of First Presbyterian Church
in Holly Springs and traveled together to Hill Crest Cemetery for the
committal service. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
He
leaves his wife, Ann Goode Cochran;
daughter, Leslie Cochran Carruth of Roswell, Ga.,; a son, Cliff Cochran
of Woodstock, Ga.; a sister, Rita Cochran Langus of Mobile, Ala; two
sisters-in-law, Doris Cochran, Harriet Cochran, both of Holly Springs;
and six grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by two
brothers, Vadah Cochran and Clark Cochran, both of Holly Springs.

Crane, 70, of Holly Springs, died
Jan. 21, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of
Free Branch MB Church and a self-employed carpenter.

24 at Strawberry MB Church. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden.

Troy L. Defer Jr., 58, of Red
Banks, died Jan. 23, 2009 at his home. He was the pastor of Red Banks
Baptist Church and an executive member of the Mississippi Baptist
Convention Board. He traveled to several different countries as a
volunteer in missions through the Lafayette-Marshall Baptist
Association and served several churches as pastor.

were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 26
at Red Banks Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro.

died Jan. 21, 2009 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was the widow of
Fred House. She was a member of Adolphus Chapel CME Church and a
domestic worker in private homes.

Inc. in Collierville, Tenn.

died Jan. 16, 2009 at her home. She was the widow of Walter Rogers. She
was a former member of the LaFayette County Democratic Executive
Committee, Retired Teachers Association and oldest living member of
Second Baptist Church.

21 at Second Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in St.

Flat, died Jan. 7, 2009 in Hickory Flat. He was a member of St.
Mary’s United Methodist Church in Potts Camp.

for family were held at Reids Gift MB Church Cemetery in Potts Camp.
