| Accident victim robbed; one charged with fraud By BARRY BURLESON Editor A Marshall County man is jailed after being accused of using a credit card taken from an automobile accident victim. Dennis
Brittenum, 33, 3690 Highway 72, was arrested January 15 at the
intersection of Taska Road and Highway 72, according to Sheriff Kenny
Dickerson. He is charged with credit card fraud. Jim
Holloway of Mt. Pleasant was seriously injured in a one-car accident
the day before, January 14, at about 6:40 p.m. on Highway 311.
Holloway, who was ejected from the F-150 Ford pickup he was driving,
was transported to The Med by helicopter, according to a Holly Springs
Fire Department report. Holloway’s wallet and his
Rolex watch were stolen from the scene, Dickerson said. The watch was a
special one, given to him by his late father, according to authorities. Brittenum was arrested after Holloway’s card was used for a purchase at the BP Travel Center in Slayden, Dickerson said. Two other suspects in the case are being sought by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. “This
is a crime that was committed at an accident scene where this man was
suffering,” Dickerson said. “It’s very sad that someone would do such a
thing.” He said the sheriff’s department has “some good leads” and hopes to apprehend the other two suspects soon. Anyone
having information regarding the crime, please contact the Marshall
County Sheriff’s Department at 662-252-1311 or Crime Stoppers at
1-800-729-2169. Sheriff Dickerson also said the Grand Jury met Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Arraignments are set for February 12.
