Marshall woman indicted on false pretense charge
Sweetie B. Wooten, 38, of 1710 Marianna Road, Holly Springs, was indicted November 19 by a DeSoto County Grand Jury on a charge of false pretense, according to attorney general Jim Hood. Wooten was charged with intending to cheat or defraud a victim by telling him that she could get him out of a criminal charge if he paid her $10,000.
Wooten was arrested in August by investigators with the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General’s Office. She was taken to the DeSoto County jail and released on $5,000 bond. She remains free on bond until her court date, not yet set.
“The penalty for false pretense in this state is up to 10 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections and a fine of up to $10,000,” said Hood.
As with all cases, the charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
