Patriots, coach receive honors
Several Marshall Academy Patriots have received post-season football recognition.
Two senior Patriots – Tyler Childers and Will Patton – have been selected state all-stars. They will play for the north team in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools All-Star Game on Friday, Dec. 4, at Mississippi College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
The All District 1-AA team was also recently announced.
Childers was named the district’s most valuable player on the offensive side of the football. Other Patriots joining him on the all-district offense are Patton, Hank Owens, John Tomlinson, Tyler Cook and Chase Carpenter.
Patriots on the all-district defense are Josh Vanderburg, Jake Delashmit, Trey Lindsey, Drew Rappa, Elgin Lafever and Chase Ferrell.
Casey Shaw was named honorable mention (offense) and Neil Murphy honorable mention (defense).
Keith Wicker, head football coach at Marshall Academy, was selected district coach of the year.
The MA Patriots finished 10-2, losing in the second round of the Class AA playoffs.
In three years as the Pats’ head coach, Wicker has posted a 28-9 overall mark. He has taken Marshall Academy to the playoffs all three seasons – including a state runner-up finish in 2007.
