| Lady Cards 6-0 By BARRY BURLESON Editor The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals take a Thanksgiving break this week with an unblemished record. “We’re
off to a good start,” coach Tana Miller said about her team’s 6-0 mark.
“We’re playing pretty well, but we still have a lot of work and a lot
of games ahead of us.” Last week the Lady
Cardinals defeated Hickory Flat, Wheeler and Pine Grove – the thriller
being an overtime win Friday night at Wheeler. The Potts Camp boys went
1-2 against the same schools. The Lady Cardinals coasted to a 71-41 win November 17 at Benton County rival Hickory Flat. Scoring in double figures were Samantha Stinson with 16, Ashton Gandy with 13 and Nieshia Stinson with 12. Potts Camp built a commanding 36-16 halftime advantage. Shalonda Reynolds had 11 for Hickory Flat. Coach Miller called it a “crazy game” Friday at Wheeler as her squad let a lead slip away and then won 93-84 in overtime. The Lady Cards were up by 10 in the first half and then found themselves down by 10 in the second half. “That was a 20-point swing,” she said. “We did not play well defensively.” But
with the game tied at 79 at the end of regulation, Potts Camp outscored
Wheeler 14-5 in the extra period to escape with the victory. Kenyotta
Jenkins was the top gun for the Lady Cardinals. She scored 29. Other
leading scorers were Samantha Stinson with 15, Zana Davis with 12,
Lamonica Ingram with 11 and Gandy with 10. The Lady Cardinals then wrapped up the week with a 70-41 win over Pine Grove Saturday afternoon in the West Union Challenge. “We finished on a good not going into the holiday,” Miller said. Potts Camp was up 36-18 at the half. Jenkins led the way with 19, followed by Davis with 16 and Tenesha Woods with 11. Potts Camp boys The Cardinals fell 78-56 Tuesday of last week at Hickory Flat. They trailed 42-25 at intermission. LaDarrius Beard was the only Cardinal in double digits. He scored 19. Caleb Van Tassell’s 18 points paced the Rebels. The Potts Camp boys had a tight battle with Wheeler Friday night and dropped a 73-64 decision. Coach Matt Horton’s Cardinals trailed 20-14 after one period, 36-32 at the half and and 52-47 following three quarters. Beard was the game’s top scorer with 29 points. Johnathan Falkner added 14 for the Cards. The
Potts Camp boys then went to the holiday break on a positive note as
they knocked off Pine Grove 72-63 Saturday in the West Union Challenge. The momentum swung back and forth in the contest. The
Cardinals were down 16-13 after one quarter and then went on a 22-13
run in the second quarter to grab a 35-29 halftime advantage. Pine Grove rallied to lead 49-48 after three periods but Potts Camp got it back in the fourth, outscoring its opponent 24-14. For
Cardinals scored in double figures – Beard with 24, Allen Robinson with
16, JaVaughn Jones with 14 and Jamarquis Foster with 10. “It
was good to get the win,” Horton said. “We played a lot better the last
two games. Hopefully, it will give us some momentum coming out of the
Thanksgiving break.” Potts Camp teams play in the Walnut Tournament November 30-December 5.
