Lady Cardinals improve to 3-0
By BARRY BURLESON
Coach Tana Miller’s Potts Camp Lady Cardinals upped their early season record to 3-0 last week with wins over Mooreville and Ashland.
The Potts Camp boys split against the same two opponents - beating the Troopers and falling to the Blue Devils – as their season mark went to 1-2.
The Lady Cards dominated Mooreville 84-54 in their home opener Tuesday of last week. Potts Camp led 47-30 at the half and outscored the visitors 26-11 in the fourth period.
Five players scored in double figures, led by Kenyotta Jenkins with 22. Other top scorers were Ashton Gandy with 14, Tenesha Woods with 13, Lamonica Ingram with 12 and Samantha Stinson with 20.
The third quarter was the difference in a Saturday night road win over Ashland. The Potts Camp girls, with a 34-30 halftime deficit, outscored the Lady Devils 21-7 in the third and cruised to the 67-51 win.
Jenkins again led the offense with 15. Stinson and Gandy followed with 13 and 12, respectively.
“We’re playing well,” Coach Miller said, “but we have to keep working and keep improving.”
Top scorers for Ashland were Shontaero Terry with 17 and Kiana Jones with 10.
The Potts Camp boys earned their first win of the season by clobbering Mooreville 74-47 on Tuesday of last week at home.
Coach Matt Horton’s squad led 35-24 at the half and outscored the Troopers 26-13 in the third for the easy win.
Allen Robinson and LaDarrius Beard scored 13 each for Potts Camp. Antonio Love added 12.
Saturday night’s trip to Benton County neighbor Ashland was a rough one for the Cards. They fell 83-54 to the Blue Devils.
