The effort will be a partnership between Health First Clinic of Byhalia, Hickory Flat Family Clinic and the Marshall County School District. The school-aged student (K-12) falls into one of the higher-risk categories for H1N1 and we want to make sure every family has an opportunity to receive this vaccine for their children. The shots are not mandatory and the decision to do so is left completely in the hands of the parents. In order to be vaccinated, the child must turn in a completed and signed parental consent form. Shots will then be administered only to children enrolled at the various schools. The vaccine is free. Those children age 9 and under will need a second dose of the vaccine about 28 days after the first dose, and second clinics will be scheduled for the schools in the coming weeks. We hope providing school clinics will be helpful for parents who would like to have their children vaccinated. We recognize that not all students will choose to take advantage of this offer, and we will respect the individual discretion exercised by families. It is important that families review the Health Department and the CDC websites to assist in making the best decision for their families.
