Green was elected vice president of the MS School Food Service
Association, while attending a conference held in Vicksburg. There were
over 600 in attendance. It’s a whopper! Mary Holt of Piney Point caught a 36-pound catfish last week in Sardis Lake, with a hook and a worm. Checking out Ole Miss Four
Holly Springs High School seniors participated in campus preview
activities and pre-game festivities at the University of Missisippi for
Fall Visit Day. Visiting the campus were Tonza Scales, Jerwarn LeSuer,
Kineshia Brown, Michael Muruako and Holly High counselor Joseph Simpson. 25 Years Ago - November 8, 1984 Mondale, Winter take margins in Marshall While
the rest of the nation and Mississippi were giving President Ronald
Reagan a landslide victory, Marshall County turned out in heavy voting
to present Democratic challenger Walter Mondale one of his few bright
spots. Mondale outpolled Reagan by almost 1,500 votes. Rep. Jamie
Whitten received a resounding endorsement with 7,458 votes to the
challenger’s 838 votes. Rose hosts DAR The Major Matthew
McConnell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Oct.
24 with Mrs. Kenneth Rose as hostess. Mrs. Rose, retiring regent,
turned the meeting over to Mrs. John Shackelford, the new regent. 50 Years Ago - November 5, 1959 G.G. Hill, Coca-Cola company manager, to retire The
Coca-Cola Bottling Co. announced the retirement of the Holly Springs
plant manager, G.G. Hill, effective Jan. 1, 1960. Hill came to the
local plant from New Albany in 1923. Since then, he has been most
active in civic and religious life in Holly Springs. Daughters of the American Revolution meet The
Major Matthew McConnell Chapter of the DAR met Oct. 27 in the dining
room of Johnny’s Cafe with Mrs. Jake Hurdle presiding. Cherry tarts and
ice cream, along with coffee, were served. The ritual was led by the
regent, Mrs. George Yarbrough.
