Indians sting Hornets By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor The
Byhalia Indians appeared poised and ready as they welcomed the Hornets
of Montgomery County to their homecoming game at Indian field. The
Hornets received the ball and right away it looked like an Indian
night. The Hornets fumbled on their second play and Byhalia recovered

Shelby Johnson – exception to rule By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor Throughout
the state of Mississippi during the months between August and December,
there are thousands of student athletes engaged in variety of
scholastic sports at the secondary level. The sport of football will
garner the largest portion of that number. And like the ads proclaiming
the purity of Ivory soap, 99.99 percent will be of the male persuasion. But
there is an exception to almost every rule and at Byhalia High School
it is vested in Shelby Johnson. Shelby is a girl – perky, petite and
pretty but not presumptuous. She is well aware of her position on the

Behind The Scoreboard By Claude Vinson NFL news There
would probably be only a handful of fans of the NFL who would be aware
of the verbal feud between the Oakland Raiders’ Richard Seymour and the
New York Giants’ Antonio Pierce. The Giants beat the Raiders pretty
badly on October 11 and Pierce, being a little expansive and more than
a little critical, made the statement that the game was more like a
“scrimmage.” The Giants had beaten the Raiders quite handily at 47-7. Full Story
Tigers manhandle host Hawks By BARRY BURLESON Editor Holly
High was simply no match for one of Class 3A’s best Friday night. The
winless Hawks fell 58-0 to undefeated Charleston at Sam Coopwood Park

Cardinals down Jumpertown By BARRY BURLESON Editor The
Potts Camp junior varsity football team earned its second win Thursday,
thanks to Jamarquis Foster’s running on offense and four interceptions
on defense. The Cardinals, fielding their first football team in some 70 years, beat Jumpertown 26-22. Full Story
New basketball season arrives for area schools The high school football regular season winds down this week, which means basketball is just around the corner. One
area school, Marshall Academy, is actually tipping off its season this
week. The junior high and varsity Lady Patriots are playing in the
Magnolia Heights Pre-Season Tournament. Full Story
Signup begins The Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department is holding registration for youth basketball. The league is for boys and girls ages 4-14. Registration
is available at the Eddie L. Smith Jr. Multi-Purpose Building or city
hall Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a $20

Hunter safety set Hunter Safety Course will be given at Potts Camp High School from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. November 5 and 6, and at 8 a.m. on November 7. Applicants must be 10 years old or older and bring Social Security numbers. Register at 662-563-6330.

week was filled with homecoming activities at Marshall Academy. Due to

Homecoming at Byhalia Byhalia High
School held its homecoming activities last week, concluding with the
crowning of the 2009 queen at halftime of the Friday night football
game between the Indians and Montgomery County. Members of the court
