| New basketball season arrives for area schools The high school football regular season winds down this week, which means basketball is just around the corner. One
area school, Marshall Academy, is actually tipping off its season this
week. The junior high and varsity Lady Patriots are playing in the
Magnolia Heights Pre-Season Tournament. The two teams faced Kirk Tuesday and then go against Pillow at 4:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., respectively, on Thursday, Oct. 29. The
Marshall Academy varsity squads will play in the Olive Branch Jamboree
on Saturday, Oct. 31. The schedule follows – 1 p.m., MA girls versus
New Albany; 1:45 p.m., MA boys versus Alcorn Central; 2:30 p.m., MA
girls versus Lake Cormorant; and 3:15 p.m., MA boys versus New Albany. Other
high schools in Marshall County – Holly Springs, Potts Camp, Byhalia,
H.W. Byers – start their basketball seasons the second week of November. Holly
High teams host Potts Camp Monday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. The Hawks and Lady
Hawks play in the Coldwater Tournament November 12-14. Potts
Camp squads, after visiting Holly Springs, play their home openers
November 10 versus Mooreville, host Falkner November 13 and go to
Ashland November 14. H.W. Byers teams tip off their season November 13 at home versus Ashland and then go to Calhoun City November 14. The Lady Lions, back-to-back state champions in Class 2A, and the Lions move down to Class 1A this season. The Byhalia High School Lady Indians and Indians start their season Saturday, Nov. 7, at DeSoto Central.
