An early goal-line stand lit Marshall Academy’s fire Friday night at Tunica. MA
had taken a 3-0 lead on Chase Carpenter’s 35-yard field goal with 7:31
to go in the opening quarter. But host Tunica Academy answered with a
drive that reached the Marshall 4-yard line. There the Blue Devils were

Revival of Cardinal football • Potts Camp junior high loses opener at rival Byers By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor And a county rivalry begins. H.W.
Byers has made enough history the past three years to have its own page
in the Guinness Book of Records. On this date (October 4, 2009) Potts
Camp was inaugurating its football season of modern times and using the
H.W. Byers field as its venue. Local historians say Potts Camp last had a football team some 70 years ago. Full Story
Indians lose lead at Tunica By BARRY BURLESON Editor It was the tale of two halves Friday night for Byhalia. The
visitors strolled into Tunica and took command of the district contest
versus Rosa Fort only to see the lead slip away in the second half. The
host Lions rallied for the 28-16 win over the Indians from Marshall

Hawks fall to Wildcats By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor The
Holly High Hawks met the Wildcats of Independence last Friday night
before a large crowd at Sam Coopwood Park. It was also homecoming night
for the school and marked the first game in district play for the Hawks. The
Wildcats elected to receive and Tyrone Miller’s kick was taken at the
20-yard line by Antonio Burton. The running back sped down the left
sideline virtually untouched for the Wildcats’ first score. The extra
point was booted for a 7-0 score. Full Story
Behind The Scoreboard By Claude Vinson SEC shines This
time of the collegiate football season in the SEC, all of the
conference seems to be chasing the Florida Gators. One has to admit
that the SEC has not become a force to be reckoned with, but the force
to be reckoned with in the last decade. Some of the most talented
athletes in the collegiate football scheme of things and the recurring
high rankings each season have made member teams the most viable
prospective opponents for the annual bowl series. Full Story

Camp participated in a cross country meet at Blue Mountain College on
Saturday, Sept. 26. It was a muddy day. Placing from Potts Camp were
Shauna Haney, 11th for varsity girls (1A-3A); junior high, Nathan
Alverson 10th; and Matt Swinford, 12th for varsity boys (1A-3A). |
Junior high Pats blank Oak Hill The Marshall
Academy junior high football team improved to 6-0 on the season with a
34-0 non-conference victory at Oak Hill last Thursday. It
was a hard-hitting football game. The Patriots suffered a couple of
injuries, most notably Dustin Allen (concussion) and Hunter Vanderburg

The
Terminators, a 10-year-old USSSA baseball team from North Mississippi,
won first-place trophies in the Horn Lake Super Slugger Stampede
Tournament September 25-27 and the Fall Nationals NIT in Southaven
October 2-3. The Terminators are ranked first in the nation for AA
competitive baseball, according to USSSA rankings. Congratulations

Lady Pats end season The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots wrapped up their soccer season last week with three close losses. MA fell 2-0 at Heritage Academy and then lost 3-0 and 2-0 decisions to River Oaks, La., one of the top teams in the state. Full Story
