New task force
to meet Thursday in Jackson
The
Graduation Rate Task Force, co-chaired by Senator Doug Davis and
Representative Kelvin Buck, will meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 1,
in the IHL Board Room in the Universities Center, 3825 Ridgewood Road,
Jackson.
The
Task Force was established by the
Mississippi Legislature during the 2009 regular session to study and
report on graduation rates in the state’s public four-year and two-year
postsecondary institutions.
The
Graduation Rate
Task Force consists of representatives of the Mississippi Legislature,
the Governor’s Office, the State Institutions of Higher Learning,
Mississippi’s Community and Junior Colleges, the Mississippi State
Board of Education, and the Mississippi Economic Council.
White Oak
Festival set for Oct. 10 in Byhalia
The
annual White Oak Fall Festival in Byhalia is just a few weeks away, set
for Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. until.
The
festival, sponsored by the Byhalia Sports Association, will be held at
the ball fields on Lowery Road, just off Highway 178.
Entertainment
will include local favorites and, by popular demand, a talent show.
Several contests are scheduled, including a crowd favorite hula-hoop
contest. Concessions will include barbecue, turkey legs, burgers, hot
dogs, corn dogs, funnel cakes, and much more.
Sponsors
are Northcentral, Citizens Bank, Merchants and Farmers Bank, Farm
Bureau, CenturyTel, and Health 1st Family Medical Clinic.

Friends of
Library plan benefit yard sale
Friends
of the Marshall County Library will sponsor a benefit yard sale on
Saturday, Oct. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The
yard sale, with all proceeds benefitting the library, will be held at
Christ Episcopal Church parish house on North Randolph Street in Holly
Springs.
Byhalia FFA
hosting fund-raiser this Friday
The
Byhalia High School FFA will host a fish fry/auction Friday, Oct. 2.
The fish fry, $7 per plate, starts at 5:30 p.m. and the auction at 6:30
p.m.
Auction
items include deer mount, hand-carved pens, baskets and much more. Come
enjoy the fun.
