She’s played softball since she was 7. She’s been a part of eight state championships. Marshall
Academy senior Lauren Alexander will next take her diamond talents to
Southwest Tennessee Community College. She signed with the Lady Saluqis
Thursday afternoon in the MA library, surrounded by family, friends,
teammates, classmates and coaches. Full Story

Lady Hawks of Holly High would probably have liked to forego their
contest with the Lady Lions of H.W. Byers after all was said and done
last Friday evening. The Lady Lions were still undefeated at 20-0 and

Cardinals go to 3-0 in district By BARRY BURLESON Editor One statistic jumped out at coach Brian Smith when talking about his Potts Camp Cardinals’ eighth straight victory. The Cards had just four turnovers in a big 71-61 district win over Ashland Friday night at home. Full Story
Holly High takes pair from Independence By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor The Lady Hawks and Hawks were on the road to Independence town Tuesday evening of last week to take on a Region 3 rival. The Holly High girls faced the Lady Wildcats first in a contest which pitted their 2-4 record against the Lady ’Kats’ 4-3 mark. Full Story
Fitch Farms-Galena Plantation Competitors travel from all parts of country to vie for championship The
annual Fitch Farms-Galena Plantation Open All-Age Field Trial and Derby
was held on the historic 7,000-acre estate in Holly Springs. The
drawing was held Saturday, December 6. Although the trial was set to
begin Monday, Dec. 8, heavy rains and thunderstorms delayed the
National Qualifying Stake to Wednesday. With
a prize package worth over $14,000, competitors traveled from all parts
of the country to vie for the championship. There were 28 dogs in the
Open All-Age and 12 dogs in the Derby. The entry roster was short from
the customary lineup. Full Story
Lady Lions 22-0 By BARRY BURLESON Editor H.W. Byers split district games last week at Baldwyn and did the same Saturday versus Sheffield (Tenn.). The
Lady Lions had little trouble with the Lady Bearcats. They won 64-39 on
Tuesday of last week. The state’s top-ranked team improved to 20-0
overall and 3-0 in district play. Full Story
