Lady Lions 22-0

H.W. Byers split district games last week at Baldwyn and did the same Saturday versus Sheffield (Tenn.).
The Lady Lions had little trouble with the Lady Bearcats. They won 64-39 on Tuesday of last week. The state’s top-ranked team improved to 20-0 overall and 3-0 in district play.
Byers built a 16-6 advantage in the first quarter, led 33-22 at the break and outscored the home team 31-17 in the second half.
Amanda Jones blistered the nets with 18 points, followed by Symone Gorman with 16 and Alexis Hardaway with 10.
The Lady Bearcats dropped to 8-8 overall and 2-1 in Division 1-2A.
The H.W. Byers boys took it on the chin at Baldwyn - falling to the Bearcats 89-56.
The Lions were in a 22-4 hole after one quarter and it got deeper.
Top scorers for Byers were Tedarian Bryson with 16, Fred Jones with 14 and Marcus Rayford with 12.
The Lions dropped to 7-11 overall and 2-1 in the district. Baldwyn improved to 15-1 overall and 3-0 in the district race.
The high-flying H.W. Byers girls had an even easier time Saturday at home. They clobbered the Tennessee neighbor 92-33 to up their perfect mark to 22-0.
They ran ahead of Sheffield 26-8 in the first and led 56-16 at the half.
Four Lady Lions hit for double digits - Amanda Jones with 22, Rachel Jones with 19, Ciarra Seldon with 13 and Alexis Hardaway with 12. Rachel Jones also dished out 11 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds.
The H.W. Byers boys weren’t as fortunate as they lost to Sheffield 86-67. Their record went to 7-13.
