JV Lions come up short at Tupelo Christian
H.W. Byers lost by 19 in its first junior varsity game Friday night, another step in the rebirth of football at the Marshall County school.
The Lions fell 39-20 to Tupelo Christian Preparatory School’s varsity squad.
Coach James Kimbrough’s squad got touchdowns from Stephen Trelorenz, Dominic Jones and Chris Echols in the loss. Trelorenz scored on a 19-yard run in the first quarter. A try-for-two was unsuccessful. Jones reached the end zone from 7 yards out in the second. Echols carried for the two-point conversion. Echols had a 1-yard touchdown plunge in the fourth. The run for the two points was stopped short.
“We did pretty well for our first time out,” Coach Kimbrough said.
The Lions (0-1) were scheduled to host Holly Springs in junior varsity action Tuesday.
