| Police investigate shooting death A man was
shot and killed during the aggravated assault of another man at a Holly
Springs residence last week, according to police chief Robert Pearson. Tuesday,
Aug. 25, Benjamin Reed, 22, of Chickasaw, Ala., was shot and killed as
he attacked a man living on Woodland Heights Drive with the brass head
of a walking cane, the chief said. Pearson said
the incident started at the door of the residence and continued inside
where the shooting occurred late Tuesday afternoon. He said the two men were strangers. The case remains under investigation by the Holly Springs Police Department. Two
people were arrested on Sunday, August 30, and charged with aggravated
assault involving a firearm, Pearson said. Justin D. Wilson, 20, of
Oxford and Julish House, 18, of Holly Springs, were charged with
aggravated assault. A commercial burglary, auto burglary and two residential burglaries were reported last week. The
commercial burglary occurred in the 100 block of West Valley Street on
Tuesday, August 25, Pearson said. Entry to the business was gained
after a window was broken out. No items were missing. A Motorola radio and a pair of prescription sunglasses were stolen during an automobile burglary in the 400 block of Chulahoma. A
residential burglary was reported in the 100 block of Van Dorn on
Saturday, August 29. Entry was gained through a rear side glass. No
items were missing. A burglary in the 200 block
of Chulahoma was reported Sunday, August 30. Entry was gained by
breaking the glass out of a back door. Nothing was reported missing. The
following citations were issued last week: leaving the scene (3); loud
music (3); no driver’s license (3); running stop sign/light (2);
speeding (7); suspended driver’s license (2); improper passing (2);
expired tag/no tag (5); driving without headlights (1); no insurance
(3) and grand larceny (3). The following
misdemeanors were reported: theft of service (1); hit and run (1);
disorderly conduct (1); harassment (1); malicious mischief (1); petit
larceny (7); trespassing (3); shoplifting (1); simple assault (3); and
domestic violence (3).
