Hummingbird
festival named ‘travel treasure’
It’s
official. The 10th annual Hummingbird Migration Celebration at
Strawberry Plains Audubon Center was named a Southern Travel Treasure
by AAA’s magazine, “AAA Southern Traveler.”
Featured
in the
Sept./Oct. 2009 issue of “AAA Southern Traveler,” the Hummingbird
Migration Celebration was selected as a Southern treasure for its
appeal to typical AAA members.
“AAA
Southern Traveler’s” popular
Travel Treasures series is part of each bimonthly issue. The
Hummingbird Migration Celebration received a certificate for the
designation.
“AAA
Southern Traveler” circulates to more than
210,000 AAA homes in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. More than 70
percent of readers choose the South for their vacation destination.
“We’re
pleased to add the 10th annual Hummingbird Migration Celebration to the
growing list of treasures in our region,” said Michael Right,
editor/publisher of “AAA Southern Traveler. “Our members recognize the
South has endless travel and recreational opportunities. We try to
offer events like this to our readers to encourage more exploration of
local sites and attractions.”
The
10th annual Hummingbird
Migration Celebration will be held during the height of the birds’
spectacular fall migration near Holly Springs – next week, Sept. 11-13.

Byhalia police
officers respond to thefts, fire
The
Byhalia Police Department responded to 44 calls during the past week.
Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 10; motor
vehicle accidents, 1; disturbances, 2; thefts, 2; escorts, 4;
animal-related calls, 1; juvenile-related calls, 1; medical assistance,
6; fires, 1; and miscellaneous calls, 16.
Byhalia
police officers also made four arrests during the past week.
Early deadlines
set for next week’s newspaper
The
South Reporter announces early deadlines for its next edition due to
Labor Day.
Deadline
for classified ads is Friday at noon. Deadline for all other
advertising, including legals, and news articles is Friday at 5 p.m.
The
South Reporter office will be closed Monday, Sept. 7.
