The Marshall Lady Patriots went 3-3 on the diamond last week. MA vs. W. Memphis  | Getting the out

The
winning pitcher was Mallary Covington. She gave up just four hits and
three walks and struck out five in the Lady Patriots’ 19-9 win. Marshall
was up 18-0 in the top of the third when coach Susan Rodgers put her
B-team in to finish up the game. Every Patriot reached base and scored
for Marshall. MA vs. Kirk Class AA Marshall lost another close one to conference rival Kirk 3-2. Casey Gibson was the losing pitcher, giving up five hits and one walk and striking out four. Elizabeth
Skelton was the leading hitter for Marshall, going three for three from
the plate. Kat Moore was two for three. Mallory Covington, Courtney
Gibson and Casey Gibson also got a hit each. MA vs. Magnolia The Lady Patriots lost in nine innings, 3-2, to Class AAA Magnolia Heights. Casey Gibson was the losing pitcher, giving up just two hits, walking three and recording four strikeouts. Leading
the Marshall team at the plate were Chelsey Gilliam, Casey Gibson and
Courtney Gibson, each with two hits, and Skelton got 1 hit. Greenville Christian Tournament MA vs. Delta The Lady Patriots dropped a 6-2 decision to Delta to open the Greenville Christian Tournament Saturday. Casey Gibson was the losing pitcher. She struck out five, gave up four hits and walked three. Leading the offense were Casey Gibson and Skelton with two hits each. Gilliam and Mallory Covington also got a hit. MA vs. Deer Creek The Marshall girls bounced back to beat Deer Creek 8-0. Casey Gibson was the winning pitcher, giving up six hits and no walks and striking out nine. Gilliam
was the big hitter for MA, hitting a solo home run over the left field
fence. Courtney Gibson and Skelton got two hits each and Casey Gibson
also got a hit. MA vs Washington The Lady Patriots wrapped up the tournament by stunning Class AAA Washington, 6-5. The host school went into the game thinking it would be an easy win but MA gave them more than they could handle. Marshall
got one run in the first on two errors and a passed ball at the plate
that allowed Casey Gibson to score. Washington went ahead in the
second, scoring on two hits and a passed ball. MA tied it back up in
the fifth on a hit by Kat Moore and hard hit ball by Gilliam. The game was tied at the end of regulation, forcing Marshall’s second extra inning game in two days. MA
started with Maura Autry on second with the top of the order coming up
and they were able to get her across the plate. Washington also got a
run in so the game moved to the next inning. MA
started with Courtney Gibson on second with the bottom of the order
coming up. Anna Roberts delivered her biggest hit of the season when
she connected for a single up the middle, scoring Gibson. Washington
also puts one on the board in the eighth. Going
into the top of the ninth with Washington’s runner on second, a tired
Casey Gibson, pitching her 17th inning of the day, struck out all three
Washington batters. MA started the bottom with Maura Autry once again
on second. Lead-off batter Casey Gibson came to the plate and hit the
ball up the middle. The second baseman was able to get a glove on it
but fumbled the ball, allowing Autry to score from second to win the
game. Schedule The Lady Pats visited Indianola Monday and hosted North Delta Tuesday. |
