| Jr. high Pats shine in jamboree The Marshall Academy junior high football team had an impressive showing in jamboree action last Thursday. In the first 20-minute scrimmage against the host school North Delta, the Patriots came away with a 16-0 victory. MA’s
first score came on a 24-yard pass from Zack Pritchett to Aaron
McAlexander. The two-point conversion was successful on a pass from
Pritchett to John Wesley Ray. After the two teams
traded possessions, the Wave looked to get on the scoreboard. But, Ray
intercepted a pass and returned it 26 yards for the score. Pritchett
added the two-point score on a quarterback keeper to give the Patriots
the final margin of victory. In the second scrimmage versus Kirk Academy, Marshall again rolled to a 16-0 win. The
Patriots scored first on a quick, two-play drive. Pritchett connected
with Ray for a 34-yard pass play, and Chase Smith scored on the next
play, a 26-yard run. Pritchett added the two-point conversion. After
the defense forced a punt, Pritchett again connected on a pair of
passes, the first to Stephen Pannell for 14 yards and the second to Ray
for 16. Pritchett completed the drive with a 15-yard run and then added
the two-point conversion on a pass to McAlexander. The
junior high Patriots will travel to Senatobia for their season opener
against Magnolia Heights on Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m. “We
hope for a good following to Magnolia Heights this week,” head coach
Keith Owens said. “These kids have worked awfully hard in preparation
for this.”
