Woman faces extortion charge
A Marshall County woman has been arrested for extortion, announced Attorney General Jim Hood.
Sweetie B. Wooten, age 38, of 1710 Marianna Road, Holly Springs, was arrested August 12 by investigators with the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General’s Office and charged with one count of extortion. Wooten was booked into the DeSoto County Jail, where her bond was set at $5,000. No court dates have yet been set in the case.
Wooten is accused of telling her victim that she could get him out of a criminal charge if he paid her money.
“The penalty for extortion in this state is up to 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections,” Hood said.
As with all cases, the charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
