Classes
start this week for city, county students
School
starts Thursday of this week for some area students.
The
first day of classes in both the Holly Springs and Marshall County
school districts is Thursday, Aug. 6.
Students
attending Holy Family School return to classes Monday, Aug. 10.
Marshall
Academy students go back to school Thursday, Aug. 13.
Byhalia
Chamber sets luncheon August 13
The
Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce’s next general membership luncheon is
set for Thursday, Aug. 13.
It
will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Flame, Byhalia United
Methodist Church, 2511 Church Street.
The
luncheon will be hosted by Northeast Mississippi Health Care, Byhalia
Family Medical Clinic.
Reservations

Hummingbird
event slated for Sept. 11-13
Start
making plans to attend the 10th annual Hummingbird Migration
Celebration.
It
will be held Friday through Sunday, Sept. 11-13, at Strawberry Plains
Audubon Center, Holly Springs.

One
killed in crash on Highway 311
One
person was killed and two injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday in
Marshall County.
Sgt.
Leslie White with the Mississippi Highway Patrol said Alexis A.
Hampton, 23, of 152 Oak Cove, Ashland, died in the 1 a.m. crash on
Highway 311, just south of Highway 72. She was driving a 1997 Infiniti.
Hampton
was pronounced dead on the scene by coroner James Richard Anderson.
Kiara
Patterson, 20, of 87 Chesley Lane, Michigan City, was a passenger in
the Infiniti and suffered moderate injuries, White said.
The
driver of the other vehicle, a 2003 Ford, was Gregory L. Taylor, 39, of
1782 Highway 7. He also suffered moderate injuries, according to White.
He
said one vehicle was traveling southbound and the other northbound.
The
accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
