Sales tax holiday set for this weekend
Mississippi provides a two-day, sales tax-free shopping opportunity on clothing and shoes this weekend starting at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 31, and ending at 12 midnight Saturday, August 1.
The sales tax holiday is a temporary period when sales taxes are not collected or paid on purchases of specific products and/or services. Sales tax is not due on a single item if the item is eligible and costs less than $100.
Clothing and footwear are eligible items for the sales tax holiday while accessories including jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches, backpacks, briefcases, and similar items do not qualify for the sales tax holiday.
To check on specific retail items which are eligible and non-eligible, visit the State Tax Commission’s website. A list of guidelines for shopping and which items or conditions apply is detailed at www.mstc.state.ms.us. Click on the guide to sales tax holiday.
