Classes
start Aug. 6 for city, county students
School
starts in just a week for some area students.
The
first day of classes in both the Holly Springs and Marshall County
school districts is Thursday, Aug. 6.
Students
attending Holy Family School return to classes Monday, Aug. 10.
Marshall
Academy students go back to school Thursday, Aug. 13.
Sales
tax holiday set for this weekend
Mississippi
provides a two-day, sales tax-free shopping opportunity on clothing and
shoes this weekend starting at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 31, and ending
at 12 midnight Saturday, August 1.
The
sales tax
holiday is a temporary period when sales taxes are not collected or
paid on purchases of specific products and/or services. Sales tax is
not due on a single item if the item is eligible and costs less than
$100.
Clothing
and footwear are eligible items
for the sales tax holiday while accessories including jewelry,
handbags, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches, backpacks, briefcases,
and similar items do not qualify for the sales tax holiday.

Byhalia
police officers respond to 51 calls
The
Byhalia Police Department responded to 51 calls during the past week.
Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 7; motor
vehicle accidents, 3; disturbances, 2; domestic calls, 1; thefts, 1;
escorts, 1; juvenile-related calls, 1; assists, 5; medical assistance,
4; fires, 3; and miscellaneous calls, 23.
Byhalia
police officers also made two arrests during the past week.
Hummingbird
event scheduled Sept. 11-13
Start
making plans to attend the 10th annual Hummingbird Migration
Celebration.
It
will be held Friday through Sunday, Sept. 11-13, at Strawberry Plains
Audubon Center, Holly Springs.
