Hawks shine at Millsaps
By BARRY BURLESON
The Holly Springs football team wrapped up its summer drills on an extremely positive note.
The Hawks, under the leadership of head coach Clifford Brown, placed third last weekend in the passing league at Millsaps College in Jackson.
“Our kids did an exceptional job,” Brown said. “People there couldn’t believe we were a 3A school and competing as well as we did.”
There were 16 schools competing. Holly High finished behind two 6A powerhouses – Madison Central and Meridian.
“We had Meridian on the ropes and it came down to the last play,” Brown said.
The Hawks also competed in the offensive line and defensive line trench wars at Millsaps.
“Our kids competed well in that, too,” he said. “We showed a lot of promise.”
The Hawks start practice for the season ahead next Monday, Aug. 3, at 3:30 p.m. They kick off the campaign Friday night, Aug. 28, at home versus Lake Cormorant.
“This (trip to Millsaps) is a positive thing for us going into the season,” Brown said. “I believe we will be competitive, and I hope that competitiveness turns into more wins this season.”
