Daryl Donnell Blackmon
Daryl Donnell Blackmon, 36, of Byhalia, formerly of Canton,
died July 13, 2009 at Alliance HealthCare System. He was a member of
Holy Temple Deliverance Center in Byhalia and a factory worker with
American Tire in Memphis, Tenn. Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 18 at Old True Light MB
Church in Canton. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. J.C. Smith
officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. He leaves his wife, Lowanda Milam Blackmon; three children,
Katie Nicole Blackmon, Shelise Lechell Blackmon, Daryl D. Blackmon Jr.,
all of Byhalia; his father, George Green of Canton; two sisters,
Shelise Blackmon-Brown of Charlotte, N.C., Velma Chambers of Chicago,
Ill.; and a brother, George Blackmon of Byhalia. Pallbearers were family and friends.
Virginia Ann Carter Virginia Ann Carter, 56, of Memphis, Tenn., died July 17, 2009
at Delta Medical. She was a Baptist. Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. on July 19 at Holly
Springs Funeral Home Chapel. She leaves her mother, Betty Garrison of Snow Lake; brother,
Don Carter Jr. of West Memphis, Ark.; two stepbrothers, Michael
Garrison of Memphis, Tenn., Wes Garrison of Cloverdale, Ind.; four
sisters, Margie Ing of Memphis, Tenn., Trish Day of Splendora, Tx.,
Mary Jane Sullivan of Batesville, Ark., Gail Thomas of Hot Springs, Ark. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Pope.
Helen Ruth Cox Helen Ruth Cox, 69, of Hickory Flat, died July 17, 2009 at St.
Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Robert A. Cox
and a Methodist. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on July 19 at Potts
Camp Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She leaves two daughters, Juanita Cox, Rita Cox, both of
Hickory Flat; and a brother, Jimmy Robinson of Memphis, Tenn.
Caitlin Criddle Caitlin Abigail Criddle, 3 months, died Tuesday, July 14,
2009, at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. She was
born March 24, 2009. Services were at 2 p.m. on July 19, at Pontotoc Apostolic
Church with the Rev. Bennie Randolph, the Rev. Larry Davis and the Rev.
Paul Beam officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Innocence at Lee
Memorial Park in Verona. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc was in
charge of the arrangements. She leaves her parents, Quay and Melissa Criddle; her twin
sister, Chloe; her grandparents, Eddie and Tammy Dugan of Pontotoc,
Danny and Ramona Warren of Nettleton, and Joey Criddle of Denver,
Colo.; her great-grandparents, Frances Warren of Shannon, Annis
Holbrook of Holly Springs, and Lee and Diane Reynolds of Pontotoc,
Malcolm and Sue Coats of Randolph; her great-great-grandmother,
Christine Austin of New Albany. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Dennis Warren,
James Asa Holbrook and William Oscar Criddle; her grandmother, Eloise
Morgan; and two cousins, Tyler Barnes and Timmy Coats. Pallbearers were Donnie Barnes and J.J. Williams.
Earnestine Hughes
Earnestine Hughes, 53, of Holly Springs, died July 13, 2009 at
Baptist Hospital East, Memphis, Tenn. She confessed a hope in Christ at
an early age at Grays Chapel CME Church in Hudsonville. Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 18 at Hopewell No. 2 MB
Church in Hudsonville. Burial was in Grays Chapel CME Church Cemetery.
Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She leaves her daughters, Tangela McKay, Tavasha
Hughes-Robinson, Terrica Hughes; her mother, Lela Bell Woods; a sister,
Mae Dora Mae Franklin; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rosie Campbell. Pallbearers were Maurice Campbell, Mark Donnell, Melvin Greer,
Floyd Rhine, Richard Greer, Antoine Kimmons. Honorary pallbearers were
Taiwon Hughes, Marvin Grantham, Dedrick Moore, Charles Sellers, Authur
Kimmons and Corry Moore.
Hazel King
Hazel King, 47, of Holly Springs, died July 14, 2009 at
Baptist Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. She was a member of the
church missionary board and a retired disabled factory worker with
Mulay Plastics of Holly Springs. Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 19 at Smith Grove MB
Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev.
W.C. Conners officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements. She leaves four sisters, Emma Stephenson, Margie King, both of
Holly Springs, Brenda King, Stacey Brimfield, both of Columbia, S.C.;
and six brothers, Thessalonia King, Ivy L. King, Lee Mack King, Melvin
King, Conerly King, all of Holly Springs, and Kelsey King of Charlotte,
N.C. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sherry Young. Pallbearers were Terry Stephenson, Cedric Scott, Lamont King,
Jerry Stephenson, Anthony King and John H. Harris. Honorary pallbearers
were Thessalonia King, Ivy Lee King, Conerly King, Lee Mack King,
Melvin King and Kelsey King.
Constance Annette Lanier Constance Annette Lanier, 65, of Olive Branch, died July 17,
2009 at Baptist Memphis Hospital. She was a Presbyterian and branch
manager with American Express. Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 26 at Holly Springs
Funeral Home Chapel. She leaves a son, Shawn Thomas of Olive Branch; a daughter,
Kimberly Hauth of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Wilson Golden of Falls
Church, Va., Gene Lanier of Holly Springs; a sister, Emmy Jarjoura of
Senatobia; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ken Thomas. James Dallas Lemons James Dallas Lemons, 80, of Potts Camp, died July 15, 2009 in
Oxford. He was a logger. Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 17 at Salem Baptist
Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Holly
Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He leaves his wife, Laxine Briscoe; a son, Mike Lemons of
Potts Camp; a sister, Jessie Pipkin of Potts Camp; three grandchildren
and one great-grandchild.
Larry Donell Nelson
Larry Donell (Red) Nelson, 46, of Holly Springs, died July 11,
2009 at Baptist Hospital-North MS in Oxford. At an early age he
attended Christ Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of
Elder Albert Pass. Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 16 at Serenity Funeral
Home Chapel. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Cemetery in Holly Springs.
Bro. Jeffrey Bohanna officiated. He leaves his daughter, Temeika L. Elliott; four sisters,
Minnie Harmon of Jackson, Annie Nelson of Ashland, Mary Lewis of Holly
Springs, Judy Webster of Memphis, Tenn.; and two brothers, Robert
Harmon of Chicago, Ill., Lonnie Nelson of Flint, Mich. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie and Riley
Nelson Jr.; and a sister, Linda Norvell.
James W. Thompson James W. Thompson, 91, of Byhalia, died July 16, 2009 at his
home. He was the widower of Vera Thompson and a local dairy farmer. Services were held at 10 a.m. on July 18 at Emory Independent
Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church
cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home of Olive Branch was in charge of
arrangements. He leaves his sons, Jimmy Thompson, Morris Thompson; a
brother, Curtis Thompson; four grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to Emory Independent Methodist Church.
Air’Zria Thornton Air’Zria Thornton, 2 months, of Holly Springs, died July 11,
2009 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on July 18 at Powell
Chapel MB Church Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. She leaves her parents, Mario Thornton and Tamara Washington
of Holly Springs; a brother, La’Tavious Thornton; two sisters, Airmis,
Air’Mya Thornton, all of Holly Springs; maternal grandparents, Albert
and Earline Bowen; and paternal grandparents, Michael Thornton, Marilyn
Flemmons, all of Holly Springs. She was preceded in death by two brothers Mario Thornton Jr.
and Baby Boy Washington.
