Holly High grad in inaugural parade By BARRY BURLESON At least one Marshall Countian will be a part of the historic presidential inauguration festivities next Tuesday in the nation’s capital. Antonio Barrino, a college student at Grambling State University and native of Holly Springs, will be a participant in the Presidential Inaugural Parade. He will be marching as a member of the World Famed Tiger Marching Band of Grambling State University in Louisiana. Hwy. 72 business robbed By BARRY BURLESON The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an armed robbery that took place January 5 at a Highway 72 business. Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said two masked men, both armed with handguns, entered Moore’s Grocery/Mike’s One Stop at about 11:30 a.m. that Monday and took over $4,000 in cash.
MDOT replacing old 349 bridges By BARRY BURLESON Bridge work has begun on Highway 349 in Marshall County and will continue for a year or more. The Mississippi Department of Transportation is replacing three old bridges between Potts Camp and Cornersville. Supervisors salute community service of Winfield By BARRY BURLESON The Marshall County Board of Supervisors honored Joe Winfield Monday by dedicating the meeting in his memory. Winfield, 79, died at his home in Byhalia Friday. He served as a volunteer firefighter for 40 years, 15 with the Cayce Fire Department. He was a 911 commissioner for Marshall County. City leaders address potholes, sewer collapse By BARRY BURLESON Potholes, sewer problems, the city’s web page and sales tax revenue were a few topics talked about during last week’s meeting of the Holly Springs mayor and board of aldermen. Mayor Andre’ DeBerry said the “unusual rain season” had caused a rash of potholes in city streets. Boyle joins Audubon Center staff Strawberry Plains Audubon Center announces that Katie Boyle has joined the staff in Holly Springs. Chief provides safety tips for shoppers An auto burglary was reported in the 800 block of Highway 178 East in Holly Springs on January 7. A worker discovered a 1989 tan Dodge Ram pick-up had been broken into. The driver side vent window was broken out and a battery was taken. Byhalia police officers go to 28 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 28 calls during the past week. Chief Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 4; disturbances, 4; domestic disturbances, 1; escorts, 5; assists, 1; medical assistance calls, 5; and miscellaneous, 8. Byhalia police also made two arrests.
Family and friends honor Will Olita Will Olita of Holly Springs has enlisted in the U.S. Navy SEALS. He will be leaving Jan 21, and will be taking his training in Calif. Will is the son of Jimmy Olita and Donna Fitch, and grandson of Betty Olita and Betty Fitch. Family and friends honored Will with a going-away party at Bellevue Woods in Cordova, Tenn. They wish him the best of luck and send their love and prayers with him. |
