Young Byers teams working
By BARRY BURLESON
Summer brings a new challenge for Jason Thompson.
“We’re in the rebuilding phase,” said the head coach of the H.W. Byers Lady Lions. “We have a lot of work to do, but we’re excited about the opportunity to improve.”
Byers is looking to fill, as best it can, the big shoes of five seniors who led the team to back-to-back Class 2A state championships. Gone are Rachel Jones, Amanda Jones, Kenyata Gulledge, Ciara Seldon and Symone Gorman.
Big rodeo July 17-18
The 25th annual Knotty Bolden Memorial Deep South Championship Rodeo will be held July 17-18.
It begins at 8 p.m. each day at the Knotty Bolden Memorial Arena on Highway 7, six miles north of Holly Springs. The kids’ rodeo, sponsored by Frontier Ranch Supply, starts at 7 p.m. and includes a stick horse race and dummy calf roping.
Behind The Scoreboard
First, allow me to hope that you all had a very wonderful, safe and enjoyable holiday. It seems like even the weather cooperated. Well, around here, anyway. Not so at Wimbledon in England – the site of the “king and queen” of all tennis matches.
