Hawks win trench wars at Northeast Saturday
By BARRY BURLESON
The Holly Springs High School Hawks showed their muscle Saturday.
The Hawks won the “trench wars at Northeast Community College in Booneville competing against such schools as Tupelo, Southaven, Ripley, DeSoto Central and Vardaman. Nine schools participated.
“This speaks volumes about our kids,” coach Clifford Brown said.
He said his offensive and defensive linemen competed in a variety of drills.
Five Hawks – Tyrone Miller, James Williams, Cornelius Jenkins, Anthony Alexander and Curt Jeffries – pushed the sled 40 yards in just over 14 seconds to become “Northeast Kings of the Sled.”
Holly High also placed third in the passing league.
The Hawks are taking two weeks off.
They will next participate in a seven-on-seven camp July 24 at Millsaps.
“They’re expecting about 18 teams,” Brown said. “It’s going to be a big thing.”
Holly High will kick off practice for the new season on August 3. The season opener is August 28 at home versus Lake Cormorant.
