Victoria residents hear presentation on census
Robert Jamison with the U.S. Census Bureau was a visitor at the Victoria Community Center Wednesday, June 10, at the request of Marshall County Supervisor George Zinn III.
Jamison appealed for help and volunteers to help get ready for the 2010 Census. Mississippi has designed a program called a complete count, that attempts to account for every person in the county and state. The complete count enables towns, cities, counties and states to obtain the maximum federal dollars available over a 10-year period based on population size.
Jamison stressed the importance for the complete count when drawing up the congressional districts because the figures are used to determine how many U.S. Senators and Congressmen a state has.
“The audience found the presentation quite informative and were proud Mr. Jamison came to address them at my request,” Zinn said.
Jamison will meet with any organization or group to discuss the Census, if asked to do so. Contact Zinn or the county administrator’s office (662-252-7903) to get in touch with Jamison.
