| Thompson, Jenkins, Gulledge selected for state all-star game By BARRY BURLESON Editor Coach
Jason Thompson is going down I-55 in July to the state’s top basketball
all-star game, and he’s taking a couple of Marshall County players with
him. Thompson, who has led H.W. Byers to
back-to-back Class 2A state championships, will be the head coach for
the North girls in the game, featuring players statewide from all
classifications. It is sponsored by the Mississippi Association of
Coaches. Playing in the July 11 girls North/South
contest at Mississippi College will be Kenyotta Jenkins of Potts Camp
and Brionne Gulledge of Byers. “For anyone to be
selected, player or coach, it’s a unique honor,” Thompson said. “There
are a lot of great coaches and players in the state. I’m overwhelmed by
being selected. “It’s a rare thing for Marshall
County to have one player, male or female, in the game. This year we
have two. That’s a big thing for our county.” Thompson
said he and Jenkins and Gullege will arrive in Clinton on Thursday,
July 9. There will be a few practices prior to the all-star game, plus
an event on Friday night, July 10, which will include a slam dunk
contest, three-point shooting competition and more. The girls North versus South contest is scheduled to tip off at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11, followed by the boys matchup. Coach Thompson will be assisted by Cassie Farris of Biggersville High School. Admission is $5. The rosters for both games follow. Girls
