Almost 250 run in Kudzu
By BARRY BURLESON
Ben Knoernschild won his second straight Killer Kudzu 5K Run May 29 in Holly Springs.
He finished seconds ahead of Brian Pope, who won five straight from 2002 to 2006. Knoernschild’s time was 16:07.3 and Pope’s 16:29.2.
Behind The Scoreboard
Some things just didn’t work out the way they should have for some folks this past week and weekend in the world of sports.
For yours truly it started to go bad when the last Williams sister left the French Open. And it just kept sliding after that. Next came the defeat of the Orlando Magic in the opening round of the NBA Championship. It hit bottom when Calvin Borel failed to make good on his guarantee to take the Belmont as his personal vindication – a personal Triple Crown (jockey that is) on different mounts. Thanks, Calvin. So sure of your prediction, I left it up to you and scheduled a family fishing trip to Spencer Lake in Myrtle. A “Bird” won, just not our “Bird.”
Bolden named to All-MPSA team
The accolades keep rolling in for Marshall
Academy’s Hunter Bolden. After a spring in which he was named District 1- AA most valuable player and Mississippi Private School Association All Star, Bolden received word that he has also been chosen as first team All- MPSA.
Only 13 players from all classifications, A-AAA, were selected with five coming from AA schools. Joining Bolden on the first team from District 1-AA was Garrett Radicioni from Lee (Clarksdale).
Applications available for alligator hunting
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks has begun accepting applications for the 2009 alligator hunting season. There are hunting opportunities on both public waters and private lands.
There are two public waters zones open to limited alligator hunting opportunities – (1) Pearl River/Ross Barnett Zone near Jackson and (2) Pascagoula River Zone in Jackson County.
