| Almost 250 run in Kudzu By BARRY BURLESON
Ben Knoernschild won his second straight Killer Kudzu 5K Run May 29 in Holly Springs. He finished seconds ahead of Brian Pope, who won five straight from 2002 to 2006. Knoernschild’s time was 16:07.3 and Pope’s 16:29.2. Casey Pratt placed third with a time of 17:09.8. The turnout for the annual 5K and a one-mile run was the best ever with almost 250 participating. Pope holds the course record – 14:55.

The Killer Kudzu, benefiting the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, begins on the courthouse square and takes runners past stately antebellum homes, towering native woods, a graveyard dating back two centuries, and of course, kudzu.
