| Lesure elected mayor in Potts Camp • Towns pick aldermen By BARRY BURLESON Editor Ricky Lesure emerged the winner Tuesday night in a two-man race for mayor of Potts Camp. He
received 135 votes to Casey Mayer’s 97, according to uncertified vote
totals by machine. Lesure will replace Mayor Jimmie Collins, who did
not seek re-election. Twelve absentee ballots and
six affidavit ballots remain to be examined on Wednesday to determine
the next board of aldermen, according to town clerk Daphne Foster. Unofficial
totals by machine count for aldermen candidates were Joan Cox 82, Carol
Jean Davis 70, Mary Houston 117, Wanda N. Love 106, Herbert Luther
115, Deborah L. McCullough 96, Dollean Porter 97, Sabrina Porter 87,
Lela Reed Stevens 67, Robert Swinford 102, James (Johnny) C.
Westmoreland 73, Craig Work 97. The top five vote-getters will be
elected. Phil Malone was unopposed in his race for mayor of Byhalia. He will replace Mayor Scooter Dempsey, who did not seek re-election. There
were six candidates for aldermen in Byhalia with the top five
vote-getters getting elected. Winners, according to certified totals,
were Michael (Mike) E. Hamblin 119, Joe L. Tunstall 117, Richard
Sterling Minor 109, Daylon Cannon 96 and Frederick “Rick” A.
DeBardeleben IV 94. Ronny Blackburn received 62 votes. Newly-elected municipal officials take office next month.
