Joshua Hughes Joshua Hughes, 78, of South Bend, Ind., formerly of Holly
Springs, died May 1, 2009 at Cardinal Nursing and Rehab Center in South
Bend. He was a former member of Free Branch MB Church in Holly Springs
and a retired mechanic.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on May 16 at Free
Branch MB Church Cemetery. Rev. Joe Tunstall officiated. J.F. Brittenum
and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He leaves two daughters, Anelishea Hughes, Gabrielle Hughes,
both of South Bend, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Doreena Lee of Charleston,
S.C.; four stepsons, Anthony Rucker, Aaron Heard, Thomas Brown, all of
South Bend, Richard Brown of Mishawaka, Ind.; four sisters, Annie
Jones, Lucy A. Boyd, Susie B. Vaughn, all of Holly Springs, Lillian
Davis of Friendswood, Tx.; and four brothers, Nathan Hughes, Jasper
Hughes, both of Holly Springs, Joe Nathan Hughes of Milwaukee, Wisc.,
Joe Louis Hughes of Detroit, Mich.; and two ex-wives, Lucretia Hughes
and Diane Hughes. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary B. Dowdy; and a
brother, John Lee Hughes.
Smith Lockett Jr.
Smith (Lil Smith, Curley Top, Man) Locket Jr., 71, of Mt.
Pleasant, died May 20, 2009 at his home. He was the widower of Emma
Jane Johnson Lockett. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ
and a retired auto mechanic at David Gossett Auto Mechanic. Services were held at 3 p.m. on May 23 at H.W. Byers High
School Auditorium. Bro. Gary B. Young officiated. Burial was in
Cottrell Memorial Garden. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements. He leaves three daughters, Earline Richardson of Aurora, Ill.,
Lucille Nugent of Mt. Pleasant, Jannie Crawford of Holly Springs; a
son, Smith Lockett III of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Lena Mae Allen of
Collierville, Tenn.; three brothers, Felix Larkett of Memphis, Tenn.,
Hurbert Lockett of Red Banks, Mel Lockett of Chicago, Ill.; 18
grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by children James Lockett, Gracie
Lockett and Matry Lockett.
Henry Drayton Robinson
Henry Drayton Robinson, 75, of Byhalia, died May 17 at his
home. He was a retired cook with Cousins Texaco in Byhalia. Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 23 at Salt &
Light Ministries Headquarters in Lamar. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial
Garden. Pastor Actavatis A. Allen officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He leaves his wife, Turetha Norris Robinson of Byhalia; three
daughters, Doris Robinson Brazil of Rancho Cordova, Calif., Sandra
Robinson of Chicago, Ill., Anita Harding of Holly Springs; three sons,
Henry D. Robinson Jr. of Rancho Cordova, Calif., Jerome Norris of
Chicago, Ill., Anthony Robinson of Byhalia; a sister, Loretta Wicks of
Batesville; two brothers, Perry Robinson of Batesville, Clay Robinson
of Holly Springs; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
James Alvis Shead James Alvis Shead, 70, of Holly Springs, died May 13, 2009 in
Aurora, Ill. He received his education in the Holly Springs school system.
He moved to Aurora, where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service
for more than 30 years. After retirement, he moved back to Holly
Springs. He was baptized at an early age and remained a faithful member
of the Church of Christ. Services were held May 16 in Aurora at Healy Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial was in Lincoln Memorial Park. Bro. David Deistelkamp
officiated. He leaves his wife, Etta; his father, Charlie; five sons,
Lawrence Rayford, Don Rayford, Kevin Rayford, Fredrick Shead, Corey
Shead; three sisters, Elvera Hampton, Elzadie Johnson, Louvadia King;
five brothers, Alex, Charlie James, Parmena, Larry, Thomas; and 22
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thurman; and a sister,
Almedia Peterson.
