Marshall Academy senior pitcher Harris Gholson will continue his baseball career at a new college in Memphis, Tenn. Gholson
signed May 15 in the school library with Shepherd Academy. Family,
teammates, friends and fellow members of the Class of 2009 were on hand
for the ceremony. Matt Nuccio, newly-hired coach
at Shepherd, said sports on tap this first year at the Christian school
are baseball, basketball and football. “We’re getting organized and plan to go junior college to start with,” Nuccio said. Gholson was his 10th baseball player to sign this spring. “We’re getting good response,” he said. “Everyone is excited.” Shepherd will play its home games at Gagliano Stadium. Johnny Ray, head coach at Marshall Academy, said Gholson has improved greatly. “Harris
is getting an opportunity to continue his baseball career,” Ray said.
“This is a great situation for him to be in – a brand new school and
baseball program. “He will get the chance to step
in and prove that he can pitch at that level. He has come a long way in
the year I have had him. If he continues to improve he will do well.” He is the son of Harris Gholson II and Denise Gholson.
