Jessie Terry saw his star player, Sandricka Bowen, battle through knee surgery her senior year. “She’s one of a kind,” said the Ashland head basketball coach. “She played hurt most of the season. “She’s a team leader. The other kids love her.” Bowen,
who scored 2,187 points in her varsity career for the Lady Blue Devils,
signed a basketball scholarship Thursday with Northwest Community
College. She also had 848 rebounds, 300 steals and 275 assists over the
four-year span – ninth through 12th grades. She
averaged 21 points a game her senior season, despite the injury,
including a 35-point outing versus Pine Grove in the North Half
Tournament. Shane Oakley, assistant coach at Northwest, said the Lady Rangers are getting more than a talented basketball player. “She’s a great player – lightning quick,” Oakley said. “She’s hard-nosed, and she shoots the basketball very well. “But what I like more, she’s a great young lady. She takes care of the classroom work first. “She will fit in well with the kids we have coming back next year. We’re excited to have Sandricka at Northwest.” Bowen
has been selected to play in the Northeast Mississippi All-Star
Basketball Game to be held on May 30 at Northeast Mississippi Community
College in Booneville
